Ted Cruz Says That Matthew McConaughey Would Be a ‘Formidable’ Texas Governor Candidate

Senator Ted Cruz was a special guest In Thursday’s episode of the Hugh Hewitt Show, where he talked about one possible mainstream opponent against the current Republican governor Greg Abbott, Matthey McConaughey.

In the last weeks, it has been speculated on multiple forums about the possibility of the star of “The Dallas Buyers Club” and the current Minister of Culture at the University of Texas running for governor of Texas.

In a poll released by The Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler in May, the former Academy Award winner holds more support than incumbent Greg Abbot

During the interview, he was asked about the possibility of Matthew McConaughey running for Texas Governor against Greg Abbott, where Mr. Cruz recognized the actor as a huge threat to Abbott’s reelection

Mr. Cruz also enlisted a list of positive traits that McConaughey has: “He’s a very charming, very affable guy. He’s a movie star, and a good-looking, charming, affable movie star can be a really formidable candidate on the ballot.”

Whether Hollywood’s star decides to run is yet to be announced, but one thing is certain: he is already scaring some prominent members of the GOP in Texas.
