Mothers At GOP Convention Urged Republicans To Keep Marijuana Out Of Texas

Mothers representing Citizens for a Safe and Healthy Texas attended the state GOP convention in San Antonio to urge the party to keep marijuana illegal in the state.

Aubree Adams, a mother from Colorado who has lived in Houston, urged GOP politicians to ban Delta-8 and Delta-9 products, which produce highs similar to THC and are legal through a loophole

“We’re trying to ban all the Delta THC variants found in smoke shops, gas stations, and vape shops. They’re poisonous to our children,” Adams said, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We’re here to ask Texans to hold the line. We don’t want to expand marijuana policies and become like California or Colorado.”

Adams said her son got addicted to marijuana, leading to psychosis and aggressive behaviors. She moved to Houston from Colorado hoping things would be better for her family.

Her husband also tried cannabis, believing it would help with depression and panic attacks, but it worsened his condition, leading to severe depression and suicidal thoughts.

Adams said that after three years of sobriety, her son relapsed on Delta-8 products and went missing for two years. She eventually moved back to Colorado to be near family, but she misses Texas.

“I love Texas, I feel relaxed, connected here. When I go to Colorado I don’t fit in because I’m a common sense person and they’re got some radical point of views there,” Adams said. “The policies we’re asking for, for a Safe and Healthy Texas doesn’t want Texas to legalize marijuana.”

Another mother who spoke out against marijuana was Sonia Jimenez of Houston, who lost her son to cannabis. Jimenez said her son Josh, a bright student, lost his ambition when he started smoking weed in high school. Jimenez said he developed psychosis and began hearing voice

Josh moved to Los Angeles but quickly realized he couldn’t afford to stay. On his way back to Houston, he took his own life just before Christmas 2021.

According to Jimenez, Josh was using Delta 8 before his death.

“This stuff is the modern crack,” she said.

Despite the mothers’ efforts, cannabis was not on the list of 15 legislative priorities approved by the GOP.
