Congressman Troy Nehls reiterated Monday that he’ll do anything Donald Trump asks, just as the president-elect joked about running for a third term.
According to the Daily Beast, Rep. Nehls told reporters after a GOP conference meeting with Trump on Wednesday that he and other GOP lawmakers will do anything Trump asks.
“If Donald Trump says, ‘jump three feet high and scratch your head,’ we all jump three feet high and scratch our head,” he said. “That’s it.”
Nehls was wearing a Trump tie saying, “the good lord saved America, he just put Donald Trump in charge of that effort,” according to CNN’s Haley Talbot.
That same day, Trump made a visit to the Oval Office in the White House to meet President Joe Biden. In Washington, Trump was greeted by House Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, who said the president-elect was the “comeback king.”
At the meeting with House Republicans, Trump suggested might run for a third term. “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say he’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out.”
Nehls’ claim that House Republicans will do anything Trump says on the same day he jokes about running for a third term is sure to set off alarms among Democrats, who are likely to be in the minority in Congress.
Nehls is also one of Trump’s biggest fans and allies in Texas. He recently backed a push to rename Washington Dulles International Airport to the “Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
“The Republican Party must be in lockstep with President Trump,” Nehls wrote on social media after his comments. “The American people gave us a mandate to enact President Trump’s America First agenda.”
