Tesla announced it would be recalling almost every Cybertruck due to a problem with their oversized windshield wiper, which could increase the risk of crashes.
According to Mahsable, the recall affects over 11,000 vehicles, covering all 2024 Cybertrucks, manufactured from November 13, 2023, to June 6, 2024, which are essentially all vehicles delivered since Tesla launched the Cybertruck in November 2023.
The report says that the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component.” It also states that “a non-functioning windshield wiper may reduce visibility in certain operating conditions, which may increase the risk of a collision.” Fortunately, Tesla has stated that no accidents, injuries, or deaths have been reported in relation to this issue.
Cybertruck owners will need to take their vehicles to a Tesla service center to have the windshield wiper motor replaced.
The Cybertruck’s oversized windshield wiper gained attention even before the vehicle’s launch, with spy photos highlighting its unusual size. Tesla CEO Elon Musk acknowledged the wiper’s design challenges, admitting there was “no easy solution.”
Since its launch, Tesla has issued four recalls for the Cybertruck. The last one was also in 2024, Tesla recalled all sold Cybertrucks due to accelerator pad issues.
