As Texas restaurants and stores were allowed to reopen at 25% capacity starting Friday, this past weekend RA News asked our Facebook readers whether they would be venturing out.
Our poll showed that 24 percent of respondents said they would be going out and that 76% were staying home.
The comments ranged from expressing concern to not wanting to live in fear.
“Heck yes! I can’t live my life in fear. Actually went out to dinner this evening. You should have seen it. It was awesome! People were eating, drinking and laughing. Laughing. Man it was good seeing people having fun ! Oh and the food was yum,” one commenter wrote.
Another comment stressed concern for it being soon.
“Staying home! There’s nothing at a store or restaurant that’s worth dying over. It will be interesting to see what the numbers look like in 3 weeks or so,” one comment said.
Some were heading out in Houston
“In Houston. Went out immediately for lunch, then supper. Was wonderful,” a commenter wrote.
Gerald Parker, director at Texas A&M’s Bush School’s biosecurity and pandemic public policy program and associate dean of Global One Health said in an interview with KBTX last week that he predicts it will take two years to find a vaccine for the coronavirus.
This weekend,Texans did not seem concerned.
