How Do You Oppose The Holocaust?: Abbott’s Silent Answer ‘Speaks Volumes’ As He Allows Neo-Nazi Groups To Grow In Texas Communities

People across the nation are terrified after an out-of-state neo-Nazi group made its way through Austin and San Antonio, carrying out hateful, antisemitic actions. While the pure thought of the existence of neo-Nazis groups is reason enough to make you squirm, their actions against Jewish communities across the state will have you tossing and turning in bed with nightmares.

Somebody who appears to not be losing any sleep over the matter is Gov. Greg Abbott who has taken no action to protect Jewish Texans or condemn antisemitism and hate.

According to Texas Democrats, this is not the first time Abbott has put Texans in danger, the resurgence of neo-nazism and Holocaust denial is clearly rooted in the racism and hate-fueled by Trump Republicans over the last four years, yet recent Texas Republican policy has also left the door wide open for these hate groups.

Earlier this month, the Texas Republicans’ law censoring education around racism and sexism, led to a school administrator urging teachers to teach the opposing view of the Holocaust.

As reported by NBC News, Gina Peddy, Carroll school district’s executive director of curriculum and instructions stated, “Just try to remember the concepts of [House Bill] 3979,” referring to a new Texas law that requires teachers to present multiple perspectives when discussing “widely debated and currently controversial” issues, “And make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust,” Peddy continued, “that you have one that has an opposing, that has other perspectives,”

“How do you oppose the Holocaust?” one teacher said in response.

“Believe me,” Peddy said. “That’s come up.” protecting neo-Nazism and hate. Recently Senator Ted Cruz actually defended a parent who used a Nazi salute as a way of “protest” against school vaccine mandates.

Texas Democrats are calling on Abbott and Texas Republicans to denounce antisemitism, hate, and neo-Nazism rearing its ugly head in Texas.

“Over the last week, Texas cities have faced an onslaught of neo-Nazi activity from hate group members from out of state. There is no place for hate and antisemitism in Texas, and our Jewish communities should not have to face these disgusting attacks and intimidation. Yet days after out-of-state neo-Nazis flooded Texas, Greg Abbott still hasn’t denounced this hate and antisemitism — and his silence speaks volumes,” said Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa in a statement.

“Texans deserve to know that they can count on their leaders to speak out against hate and protect our communities from the threat of violence. If our governor isn’t willing to denounce actual neo-Nazis, then it is long past time for him to move out of the way for leaders who actually care about Texans. Texans are ready to vote Abbott out, and Democrats are ready to show our state what real leadership looks like.”
